The Sirimon route climbs Mount Kenya from the north-west: nine kilometres of montane forest and giant bamboo to Old Moses, then a long day across the Mackinder Valley moorland to Shipton’s Camp. It is the driest approach on the mountain and the most gradual, which is why we recommend it to anyone attempting high altitude for the first time. Three itineraries start here — an out-and-back to Point Lenana, or a traverse that descends the Chogoria or Naro Moru side. Pick the one that fits your days and your pace.
