The Best Guided Mount Kenya Routes

Each route offers its own beauty, challenge and unforgettable views.

Sirimon route, Mount Kenya

Best for first-timers · 4 to 6 days

Sirimon Route

A classic, gradual and scenic ascent, and the driest approach on the mountain. Nine kilometres of montane forest and giant bamboo bring you to Old Moses, then a full day through the richest vegetation on Mount Kenya to Shipton’s Camp. Known for its diverse vegetation zones and rare wildlife sightings.

Chogoria route, Mount Kenya

Most scenic · 5 to 6 days

Chogoria Route

Often considered the most beautiful route on the mountain. Chogoria features dramatic waterfalls, pristine alpine lakes and panoramic views, passing Lake Ellis, the Gorges Valley and Lake Michaelson, with Minto’s Hut set in an amphitheatre of cliffs below the peaks.

Naro Moru route, Mount Kenya

Fastest ascent · 4 to 5 days

Naro Moru Route

The fastest and most direct path to Point Lenana, including the notorious Vertical Bog. A popular choice for acclimatised trekkers ready for a decisive climb, though the rapid altitude gain makes it best suited to hikers with prior high-altitude experience.

Chogoria to Sirimon traverse, Mount Kenya

Most popular · 5 to 6 days

Chogoria–Sirimon Traverse

Our most popular itinerary. Ascend the scenic Chogoria route and descend Sirimon, crossing the mountain rather than retracing your steps. Two completely different faces of Mount Kenya in one expedition, with no repeated ground.

One-day hike from Sirimon Gate, Mount Kenya

No summit required · 1 day

One-Day Sirimon Hike

A single day from Sirimon Gate through forest, bamboo and moorland — giant lobelia, giant groundsel and tree heather — without the multi-day commitment. Ideal if you are based in Nanyuki or passing through.

Batian and Nelion, the technical summits of Mount Kenya

For experienced mountaineers

Batian and Nelion — The Technical Summits

Mount Kenya’s true peaks, at 5,199 m and 5,188 m, are technical rock climbs rather than treks. They demand ropes, alpine experience and a qualified climbing guide. We arrange these expeditions for experienced mountaineers.

Our success

Why Climb With Us

01

Local expertise

We are based in Nanyuki, at the foot of the mountain. Our guides grew up here and climb these routes year-round, not seasonally.

02

Safety without exception

Our KWS-trained guides monitor every client daily for signs of altitude sickness. If conditions or your health require turning back, we turn back.

03

Built around you

Your fitness, your dates, your pace. Solo climbers get a dedicated guide, cook and porter, the same as groups do.

04

Equipment you can trust

Sleeping bags, walking sticks, tents and camping equipment are provided and properly maintained. Jackets and larger packs available to rent.

05

Insight, not brochure copy

Our guides know where the giant lobelia grows thickest, which camp has the best sunrise, and where the elephants cross the forest track.

06

Sustainability in practice

We leave the mountain as we found it, and we employ and train guides, cooks and porters from the communities around the park.
